The Cape Fear EMS Foundation was created in August 2024 as a non-profit organization in the State of North Carolina. Our mission is to positively impact the EMS community and provide assistance to those in need.
A key initiative of ours is to ease the financial stress on students enrolled in or pursuing a pre-hospital education program at a North Carolina Community College within the Cape Fear region, encompassing New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Columbus counties. Our scholarship program will commence with a $2,000 award per student distributed over the course of 4 semesters. Ultimately, we aspire for the foundation to cover the tuition costs of every paramedic student in the Cape Fear region.
Furthermore, we have established an additional fund dedicated to providing grants to EMS professionals facing hardships. This fund, known as the Kevin Fuson Memorial Fund, honors the memory of Kevin Fuson, a valued colleague we tragically lost in 2022. The Kevin Fuson Memorial Fund is a tribute to Kevin's spirit of generosity and dedication to assisting fellow responders in times of need. For further information on this fund, please click on any #bemorelikekevin link on our website.
Our foundation is sustained through grants and various fundraising activities. We are currently planning our inaugural fundraising event for the fall of 2025, which will be called the Kevin Fuson Memorial 5K & Fun Run.
At the Cape Fear EMS Foundation, we recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are fundamental to our mission and essential for fostering a thriving community. As an organization committed to supporting EMS students and alleviating financial hardships, we uphold the following principles:
Diversity: Celebrating Our Collective Strength
We celebrate the richness of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives within our student body and grant recipients. Whether individuals come from different cultural, socioeconomic, or educational contexts, their unique contributions enhance our collective strength. By promoting inclusivity, we ensure that our future paramedics bring a wide range of perspectives to the communities they serve.
Equity: Ensuring Fairness and Opportunity
We firmly believe that financial barriers should not hinder educational pursuits. Our scholarships aim to provide equitable support, ensuring that deserving EMS professionals receive assistance regardless of their circumstances. By doing so, we empower these dedicated individuals to excel in their pre-hospital education programs and contribute even more effectively to their communities’ well-being.
Inclusion: Building a Welcoming Community
Our foundation endeavors to create an inclusive space where every student and grant recipient feels valued and respected. We actively listen to diverse voices and foster an environment of mutual understanding. We seek partnerships with organizations, communities, and individuals who share our commitment to inclusion. By working together, we can amplify our impact.
